Comprehensive Ontario Curriculum Overview


At Maple Root Academy, we strive to provide a holistic education that nurtures the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of our students. Below is an overview of our curriculum across various subjects from Kindergarten through Grade 7.


Language Arts/Reading/Writing

Students will learn the fundamentals of the English language, starting with spelling, grammar, and vocabulary, and progressing to more advanced reading and writing skills through various poems, stories, and genres of literature assigned both in-school and at home.


Objectives:

  • Sharpen and master literary and writing skills.
  • Utilize teacher support and on-campus and off-campus resources.
  • Engage in assignments, projects, and activities, including regular spelling tests.


Mathematics

Our mathematics curriculum allows students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts through practical experiences, focusing on essential arithmetic skills for future mathematical studies.


Objectives:

  • Provide students with effective strategies for solving everyday mathematical problems.
  • Establish a framework for dialogue between teachers and students.


Science

The science curriculum provides balanced education with relevant, hands-on experiences to promote scientific literacy.


Topics include:

  • Exploring Living Things
  • Ecosystems
  • Classifying Matter
  • Weather
  • Solar System
  • Habitat
  • Space
  • Energy


Social Studies

Students will build knowledge of rules, laws, authority figures, historical figures, geography, communities, governments, cultures, and environmental changes.


Assessment Criteria:

  1. Class Participation
  2. Homework
  3. Assignments/Projects
  4. Quizzes
  5. Chapter Tests


Arabic

By learning the Arabic language, students will connect more deeply with the Quran. At various levels, students will develop their communication skills in Arabic and learn sounds, letters, words, and sentences, alongside listening, reading, speaking, and writing.


Objectives:

  • Write short paragraphs and essays in Arabic.
  • Foster a better understanding of Quranic texts.


French

Our French curriculum introduces new vocabulary and idioms through interactive storytelling, helping students participate actively and collaboratively in language learning.


Teaching Method:

  • New words are presented with translations, visuals, or role-play.
  • Encourage students to predict and engage with the story, fostering enthusiasm and comprehension.


Quran

Our integrated Quran program combines core curriculum with mandatory Quran lessons, where students read and memorize for two hours each day.


Objectives:

  • Ensure proper pronunciation and adherence to Tajweed rules.
  • Daily evaluation of recitation and memorization.
  • Tailored teaching strategies based on individual student progress.


Islamic Studies

The Islamic Studies curriculum aims to instill an understanding of the five pillars of Islam and their application in daily life.


Topics Covered:

  • Basics of Islam and deeper topics such as Fiqh, Hadith, Tafseer, and Seerah.
  • Stories of the prophets and their companions.
  • Building strong character based on Quranic principles.


Gym

The physical education program emphasizes teamwork and the importance of lifelong fitness.


Goals:

  • Promote health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Enhance academic achievement through improved fitness.


Art

Art classes encourage creativity and artistic expression. Students will learn various artistic skills and techniques, with a special emphasis on Islamic art.


Objectives:

  • Develop students' creative abilities and appreciation for art.
