Comprehensive Ontario Curriculum (Language Arts/Reading/Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arabic, French, Quran, Islamic Studies, Gym, Art)
Language Arts/Reading/Writing:
Students in the elementary grades up until the eighth grade will learn the basics of the English language starting from spelling, grammar, vocabulary words and onto more advanced reading and writing skills acquired from reading of various poems, stories in class and reading of various genres of books assigned in-school and at home.
The objective is to make students sharpen and master their literary and writing skills along with the help of teachers and various on-campus and off-campus resources.
These include and are not limited to assignments, projects, and activities. Students will give regular spelling tests.
Mathematics:
Curriculum at Maple Root Academy allows students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts from their own experience and incorporates practical routines to enhance arithmetic skills for future mathematical study.
The aim is to provide students with best possible strategies for solving problems in everyday mathematics. This is done by establishing a framework of dialogue between the teacher and students.
Science:
The purpose of science is to provide students with a balanced education and to provide them with relevant, hands-on opportunities and experiences to better understand complex topics to promote scientific literacy.
Topics include but are not limited to:
Social Studies:
Throughout the years, students will learn to build up their knowledge on rules, laws, authority figures, history figures, know how of maps, knowledge about communities, governments, cultures and environment, knowledge about land form and changes.
Social Studies Grades will be based on

Arabic:
By learning Arabic Language, students will InshAllah connect to Quran in a better way.
At different levels, students are learning to use Arabic language to communicate within and beyond the classroom setting.
They will also learn sounds, letters, words, and sentences, listening, reading, speaking and writing in Arabic, and writing of both short paragraphs and essays.
French: French Ontario curriculum is offered for our elementary students. The Curriculum Introduces new words and idioms before telling the story: write them on the board, use translations and pictures or act them out so students can understand them. Then, have students participate in the stories by frequently asking them what they believe the next “scene” could be. This way, you’re building the story together and introducing new elements that keep them enthused.
Quran:
Maple Root Academy’s unique integrated Quran Program for elementary school combines the core curriculum with a mandatory one with each student learning and reading Qur’an for two hours every day.
It helps students to read with proper pronunciation and Tajweed rules. Quran Memorization is an integral part of this program.
Each student is evaluated based on review, recitation of current lesson and tajweed every day.
Quran teaching strategies are based on the students’s pace .
Progress of each child is tracked and records are maintained.
Individual attention is given towards progress of each child.
Islamic Studies:
The purpose of Islamic studies class is for students to be able to understand the five pillars of Islam and implement them in his/her daily life.
Islamic studies at Maple Root Academy tries to connect their heart to the Quran and Sunnah through basics of Islam onto more deeper and complex topics like Fiqh, Hadith, Tafseer and Seerah.
Students in their early years will also learn about Stories of prophets and their lives. They will be introduced to Sahabas, and the Prophets’ parents, wives, and children.
They will learn about how to build a strong character by learning about all facets of this monotheistic religion. InshaAllah the goal of this course is to make our way of life according to the Quran and Sunnah.
Gym:
The goal of this class is to acquire basic knowledge of team work, with emphasis on the appreciation and necessity of exercise for lifelong fitness.
Physical Education directly correlates to the health and well being of students.
Improving opportunities for physical activity is an imperative for improving children’s academic achievement and their health.
Art:
Art is a valuable class where students will learn to become creative & artistic.
Students will be working towards learning different skills in art class by which they will be able to develop their creative ability.
Islamic art will be specifically stressed in this class.
